Backing up data

R-Cloud enables you to back up your Amazon RDS data securely and efficiently.

Limitation

To protect Amazon RDS data, you can only assign a policy that has Snapshot selected as the backup target type. The Copy and the Archiving options are not supported.

Considerations

  • The following database engines are supported:

    • Amazon Aurora (MySQL and PostgreSQL)

    • MariaDB

    • MySQL Community (instances and clusters)

    • Oracle:

      • Enterprise Edition

      • Enterprise Edition CD

      • Standard Edition 2

      • Standard Edition 2 CDB

    • PostgreSQL (instances and clusters)

    • Microsoft SQL Server:

      • Express Edition

      • Web Edition

      • Standard Edition

      • Enterprise Edition

  • To protect the SaaS application data, you can assign a policy that has Snapshot specified as the backup target type.

Configuring the SaaS application for backup operations

This topic includes all prerequisites, limitations, considerations, and/or recommendations that help you enable your SaaS application data backups on the module side.

Prerequisite

You can set up the automatic policy assignment for your Amazon RDS instances by applying the labels or the hycu-policy tag to your Amazon RDS instances or clusters in Amazon EC2. To do this, select the instance or the cluster that you want to configure, and then, in the Tags tab, click Add.

For details about how to set up the automatic policy assignment, see Setting up automatic policy assignment.

For more information about adding the labels to the Amazon RDS instances or clusters, see AWS documentation.

Backing up SaaS application data

Limitation

Only backup data can be stored to the automatically created targets (and not copies of backup data or archive data).

Procedure

  1. Select the SaaS applications and/or resources that you want to back up.

Note  If you want to narrow down the list of displayed SaaS applications, use the filtering options as described in Filtering and sorting data.

  2. Click Set Policy Set Policy. The Set Policy dialog box opens.
  3. From the list of available policies, select the preferred policy.

  4. Click Assign to assign the policy to the selected SaaS applications and/or resources.

After you assign a policy to a SaaS application, a backup task starts immediately. Subsequent backups are scheduled according to the values defined in the policy.

If required, you can also perform a manual backup of individual SaaS applications and/or resources at any time. For details, see Performing manual backups.
