Setting up automatic assignment of data mover configurations

You can set up automatic assignment of data mover configurations to the protected entities.

Prerequisites

• All relevant prerequisites that apply also for manual data mover configuration assignment must be fulfilled. For details, see the following topics:

  • For SaaS applications: Configuring SaaS application backup options

  • For applications:

    • Preparing for SAP HANA application protection

    • Preparing for Google Kubernetes Engine application protection

    • Preparing for SQL Server application protection

    • Preparing for Db2 application protection

  • For instances: Planning instance protection

  • For buckets: Configuring bucket backup options

• For GKE applications: The resource objects for which you want to set up automatic data mover configuration assignment must be deployed as applications (the resource object of kind: Application must be defined in the application deployment).

Considerations

• If an entity already has a data mover configuration assigned manually, the automatic data mover configuration assignment by using tags, labels, or metadata will not override the manually assigned configuration.

• If you want to assign a new data mover configuration to an entity for which automatic data mover configuration assignment has been set up, do one of the following:

  • Define new tags, labels, or metadata as described in this topic.
  • Manually assign another data mover configuration to the entity. In this case, the manually assigned data mover configuration will not be overridden by the automatically assigned one <again.

Procedure

Entities	Instructions
SaaS applications	Depending on the SaaS application type, add labels or tags in your cloud console, and then specify the corresponding keys and values in your data mover configuration. For details, see Creating a data mover configuration.
GKE applications	Add metadata labels to applications in Google Kubernetes Engine, and then specify the corresponding keys and values in your data mover configuration. For details, see Creating a data mover configuration.
Instances	Add the following:  Tags to instances in Amazon EC2 or Azure Labels (preferred) or custom metadata to instances in Google Compute Engine When done, specify the corresponding keys and values in your data mover configuration. For details, see Creating a data mover configuration.
Buckets	Add the following: Tags to buckets in Amazon S3 and Azure Labels to buckets in Google Cloud Storage When done, specify the corresponding keys and values in your data mover configuration. For details, see Creating a data mover configuration.

The corresponding data mover configurations are automatically assigned to the applications, instances, or buckets during the next entity synchronization in R‑Cloud.
