Setting up automatic assignment of data mover configurations

By setting up automatic assignment of data mover configurations, you ensure that data mover configurations are automatically assigned to all the entities to which labels are applied. This is useful in complex data protection environments where the data protection approach often requires using various labels.

Prerequisites

Considerations

  • If you assigned a data mover configuration to an entity by specifying the configuration properties, the automatic data mover configuration assignment will not override the already assigned data mover configuration.

  • If you want to set up automatic data mover configuration assignment for SAP HANA, SQL Server, or Db2 applications, follow the instructions for the instances on which the applications are running.

Procedure

Entities Instructions

SaaS applications

Depending on the SaaS application type, add labels or tags in your cloud console, and then specify the corresponding keys and values when creating your data mover configuration. For details, see Creating a data mover configuration.

GKE applications

Add metadata labels to applications in Google Kubernetes Engine, and then specify the corresponding keys and values in your data mover configuration. For details, see Creating a data mover configuration.

Instances

Add the following:

  • Tags to instances in Amazon EC2 or Azure

  • Labels (preferred) or custom metadata to instances in Google Compute Engine

When done, specify the corresponding keys and values in your data mover configuration. For details, see Creating a data mover configuration.

Buckets

Add the following:

  • Tags to buckets in Amazon S3 and Azure

  • Labels to buckets in Google Cloud Storage

When done, specify the corresponding keys and values in your data mover configuration. For details, see Creating a data mover configuration.

The data mover configurations are automatically assigned to the entities during the next entity synchronization in R‑Cloud.
